Drama Workshops? What's that all about?......
Well.....basically for the last fourteen years or so, Marion has been running drama clubs for kids. It all started with a dusty copy of a 'Macbeth Interactive Story Telling' workbook devised by the UK's Young Shakespeare Company. She experimented with the ideas in the pack and discovered that kids as young as eight can be spouting Shakespeare with the finesse and enthusiasm of Laurence Olivier! They get sucked into the story because they become the characters in the story, experiencing their dilemmas and triumphs. Marion's used the same techniques over the years to teach Dickens, Conan-Doyle, Jonathan Swift and countless other classic authors.
Can you explore jewish themes through Drama?
Absolutely! Marion started years ago with a drama workshop on Sefer Yonah and realised what a powerful tool Drama can be in teaching Torah to children. Since then, she's done workshops for numerous organisations using chassidic stories, midrashim and events from the weekly Parsha.
Can you do this without losing respect for and sensitivity towards Biblical personalities?
Marion says "If you're careful not to project your own ideas onto the thoughts and actions of the men and women of Tanach, then why not?!"
Ok...And what's all this about parties?
Well....it's very simple. You have a child between the age of 6 to 16. And you want them to engage in seriously fun activities without resorting to 'balloon doggies' magicians, face painters and puppet shows, Drama games will have the kids organized into teams creating their own high-tech machines, making their own cars, designing outfits for the latest fashion shows and well....lots of other stuff really. All the kids need to bring along is their imagination! Marion will provide the props and you're off!
